helping vulnerable families and children
Services are provided to vulnerable families who are seeking support to strengthen their family capacity. The Service may avert some families from entering the Child Protection System, while others may already require the additional support of Child Protection and Family Services. Family Services also respond to the need for specific support of Aboriginal families and those who come from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
Referrals are directed to Child FIRST who act as the intake and assessment service.Referrals may come from the family, schools, Maternal and Child Health, doctors or other service providers. Child FIRST will assess the needs of the family, who will then be allocated to the appropriate agency. The Centre has additional funds to work with families from a CALD background.
Discussions are centred on identifying the needs of the family and working together in setting and achieving goals, and if necessary linking and working with other specialist services. Family workers can act in the capacity of Case Manager. Staff members have relevant tertiary qualifications and are experienced in working with children and families.
The Centre is open weekdays 9.30am - 3.45pm. Telephone (03) 9803 3400.
